It appears the best gallery opening in quite some time centered around the art of sneaker customization took place last Saturday in Los Angeles at The Brannock Custom Sneaker & Art Show. Headlined by the curators King of Sneakers and Marcos Rafael Ponce the total showcase included well over 30 different 1 of 1 custom designs in a slew of themes. Not to be missed was also some canvas work to match theme of a few of the sneakers, custom shoe boxes, a custom sneaker King’s throne, a supply of Angelus paint to get your own customizing on, and of course the original hip hop art: graffiti.
Reconstruction
Customs that involve deconstructing a shoe and then reconstructing that shoe to its original shape or a new form but with new fabrics and materials.
Metal Guy Nike Dunk Hi Customs by @Diversitile and @3Rcustoms
Will collaborations be the trend for the second half of 2013 in custom sneakers? If so leading the way for that wave might just be the guys from Diversitile and 3R Customs. Thankfully the two custom veterans put faith in PaintOrThread to give the world the first look on this updated and revamped version of a past Diversitile world-infamous release.
Nike Kobe VIII “What the Kobe” by @RelevantCustoms and @Mache275
If 2012 saw anything in the custom sneaker game it was the growth in the use of animal skins for reconstructions. 2013 has seen that trend only continue to increase in popularity. The latest animal endeavor comes from a well known name, Mache coming together with a relatively unknown name, Relevant Customs to make The REAL Nike What the Kobe VIII.
Air Jordan III White Python by @JBFcustoms for Wale
“You can’t get these.” That is the only statement anyone to ever obsessively wear a pair of sneakers wants to tell EVERYONE. But these days most anyone that wants a sneaker release will get it as they are nearly all 99% attainable. So how do you out do the next man….and next and next? Get vintage or customized. Odds are vintage aren’t gonna be wearable so you gotta get a retro release made unlike something on a store shelve. One known to do that and one known to provide for that are Wale and JBF Customs.
Air Jordan I Levi’s Vintage Acid Wash Denim Customs | @theMenacedesign
Off the sneaker customization radar since about late 2010 theMenace is back with all new recon custom sneakers. You may remember his work that made some noise as full reconstructions of the Vans Sk8 Hi. Well some of the materials he used are the same but base model different being that of the Air Jordan I. TheMenace gave the iconic AJ 1 silhouette a look of what was probably worn with them originally quite often in those mid 1980s: acid wash denim.
@JBFcustoms X @RegularOlTy Air Jordan 1 “Venetto” Custom Q & A
With teasers hitting the Internet last week it was our duty to bring an inside scoop on this interesting work by JBF Customs. The project is in fact a collaborative design effort between Jake of JBF Customs and @RegularOlTy of Leaders1354. The latest in JBF’s line of reconstructed custom sneakers these truly represents “premium” starting with a thick burgundy leather used on the toes, lace, and heel panels. The next obvious material is cork placed from the toe box, mid panels, Swooshes, tongues and upper heels.
