Nike Air Max 90: Mache’s First Sneaker Customization
This is where Dan Gamache started in 2004. His story follows that of most sneaker customizers: He had a passion for sneakers and art, after coming across people sharing customs online he thought he should give it a shot. This sneaker customizing thing is something Mache among many other names have been doing for decent amount of time now. The list of people that started in the early to mid 2000s that continue to customize can only get smaller. Yet the list of people getting into the art form has definitely grown the past couple years as attention on mainstream sneaker blogs and the advent of social outlets of Instagram has fueled the fire. Mache started with a beater pair all white Air Max 90 and painted a two shades of purple inspired by DipSet and their use of pinks of purple at the time. A perfect match for the pictured 10Deep shirt.
What we are trying to say by including this pair is that the epic custom on the latest model doesn’t need to be your first attempt. Learn the techniques and processes, branch out to original ideas, use a simple shoe and then start sharing once you really have something worth bringing to the table. If you make solid work everything else like Instagram followers, attention on the blogs, endless email requests, orders from celebs, and working with shoe companies will follow.
