Any good idea is worth doing again if there is improvement right? I mean how many times did they make that movie? From the preview earlier this week of the Metal Guy Dunk High by Diversitile and 3R Customs anyone that has been paying attention to custom sneakers for at least a few years probably said “hmm something seems familiar”. In a new revamped take on their original design that sort of got them into a bit of trouble in 2010 this Nike Dunk is customized in a recognizable metallic red and gold colorway.

Nike Dunk “Project Gumamela” by CPB Customs

A simple but detailed alteration can give a shoe an entirely different life.  The hibiscus flower which goes by gumamela in the Philippines was the inspiration for this more masculine take on a flower design by Charles of CPB Customs. Starting with the Slate Blue Nike Dunk SB they were transformed starting with the painting and engraving of the gumamela pattern mixed in with roses, banana tree leaves, and thorns in black against the slate blue panels. The previously white Swooshes were given a coat of metallic gold with matching laces to tie in with the classic gum soles.

Nike Air Max 1 “Doctor Doom” by Dank Customs for @SAsneaksup

For the seventh year a group of sneaker heads in San Antonio, Texas are putting on SASneaksUp a sneaker show with less emphasis on the buy/sell/trade atmosphere and more on the display of collections, authorized dealers and a custom sneaker hunt titled Sole Search. The sneakers are customized by Dank Customs and sponsored by DecadeFootwear. Previous years have seen customs inspired by Orchard St Dunks and Entourage AF1s with a round of 5 pairs hidden throughout the city the week of before

Air Jordan 3 “Cork” by District Customs

The Nike Lebron 10 Cork was one of the most anticipated sneakers we’ve seen in a while and naturally that translates into inspiration for sneaker customizers. The most recent artist to tackle the Cork theme is District Customs with this pair of Air Jordan 3s. Taking the White Cement 3 as a base, District Customs spent 60 long hours engraving and painting the tumbled leather upper to resemble the porous cork material. The tongue, liner and mudguard feature a deep brown while the tongue liner has been dyed a wine-tone, continuing with the classy theme.  DC also included reversible cork/gold dubres, designer wooden  shoetrees, custom hand tags, and a custom engraved wooden slide box with a golden plate and leather strap.
