Sneakercon NYC Photo Recap: Customs Edition

Sneaker conventions are one of the most highly anticipated events in today’s sneaker culture. Hundreds of sneakerheads young and old (but mostly really young) come together in a large open space to buy, sell, trade, and gawk at sneakers and sneaker-related apparel. SneakerCon is one of the largest and most well-known conventions, traveling to various cities around the country multiple times a year. The lines are long, it’s loud and hot, and it’s amazing!

When you go to a sneaker convention, ain’t no half-steppin’. People go to stunt and to watch others stunt with rare and expensive Player Exclusives, samples, super duper hyperstrikes, and of course, customs. When the cameras start flashing or when a cutie is checking you out, you don’t want your shoe game to be sub par, do you?

Nike Air Mag “Elite” Custom by @KickassoKustoms

The stigma of customizing a high dollar after market sneaker went out the door sometime last year starting with customized Yeezy IIs and a pair of these same Nike Air Mags. Sneakerheads that will never get these shoes are probably crying “Why ruin a classic wah wah wah!” But a driving factor of customs is that they aren’t meant for everyone, and often times they are designed for one person. But surely this Air Mag by Kickasso Kustoms modeled after the “Elite” concept used on Nike’s premier basketball models would fly off the shelves in 2015 self-lacing or not.

Nike Lebron X “Meteor Shower” Customs by @KickassoKustoms

One could say you can blame Nike, but the outer space theme is here to stay in custom sneakers. The last year has seen many attempts from great to poor in effort to recreate the galaxy print seen on the official Nike Foamposite All Star release of 2012. The concept has inspired some to get more specific with the cosmic look and the most recent is this “Meteor Shower” Nike Lebron X custom by Kickasso Kustoms. Using the “Prism” Lebron X as his base Kickasso gave the colorful accented design’s charcoal Hyperfuse upper an arrary of airbrushed painting.

Nike Lebron X Green Lantern Custom by Kickasso Kustom Sneakers

Before the year is over there may not be a theme that the Nike Lebron X hasn’t been customized with. Known for his solid air brush work Kickasso Kustom Sneakers brings a Green Lantern theme to life for a very noticeable pair of custom sneakers. What started out as the already neck-breaking “Neon” Lebron X became slightly toned down taking advantage of the bright neon yellow upper.
