NOUVEAU RICHE DOG: Shoofuni

Out of Israel, yes Israel customizing is a global phenomenom a sort of DXC but for customs took place for the first time. Here is more info from Nouveau Riche Dog:

Shoofuni is Israel’s first shoe designer event, think of a dunkxchange just with shoe designers. We had a booth, showcasing our customs and offring them for sale. I had a working station with a sewing machine and other bits and bobs. We also did a special pair of dunks@ the event, with 24 karat gold leafs and special patteren leather.

Black Carbon Dunk Low Pro B By Hush Fabrications

Hush Fabrications is killing it this month. First we saw the black on black Nike Blazer, now we get the black on black carbon fiber Dunk low with just a hint of purple that really makes them pop. The construction of these are insane. I believe they are not a full recon though as most of Hush’s work is recreating a “skin” like piece to cover over the original panels, but it is hard to tell on these. Full “decon-recon” or not these are a sick shoe Nike has failed to release since they started using carbon fiber, or carbon fiber imprinted vinyl(most likely what everyone uses in customs).

Sab_One: Nike Dunk High Spawn Custom Shoes

The first look at a all-around complete custom shoe is a great moment: clean painting, flowing color blocking, complementary accent colors and realistic graphics. The customizer responsible for the most recent great moment is Sab_One.  Spawn characters have always been extremely detailed, Sab_One followed that reputation in his version of Spawn themed Nike Dunk highs: from the red cape to the chains to the menacing green eyes and smile. Even more the fact that he did not paste the  “Spawn” title all over the shoe makes these somewhat subtle relying only on great recreation of a comic book character on a 3D canvas. Customs like this are the ones that make other customizers and fans remember your name. Lookout Sab One the requests will start flowing in!

Union NYC x Nike Dunk High Challenge looks eerily like C2’s Customs

Hold up. Okay I knoooooooooowwwww Nike created the Air Tech Challenge II many moons ago, well Tinker Hatfield working for Nike for you specifics out there. Of course Nike has every right to use the original designs in new ways and customizers really have zero legal backing to say they made a design first in one of their customs, especially if they are using Nike’s creative elements and Nikes shoes as the base. Though there is a big and obvious “but”.

You have probably seen the recent pics this week of a collaboration between Nike and the shop Union NYC that is a mash up of a Dunk, Air Tech Challenge, and maybe something else. The shoe is kinda creative since it takes design elements of the original Agassi Air Tech Challenge and its black and pink breaking fade print. BUT it was also creative about 4 years ago when c2 customs was inspired by the original Air Tech Challenge in his design on the Nike Air Force 1. Yes, I’ve already stated Nike created the design elements and can do whatever they want. But I would not believe ANYONE involved in this “collabo” if they said they had no idea of c2’s customs. Especially since c2 has made numerous colorways and a pair for one of Nike’s rather upscale account store owners Ty of Leaders1354.

See any resemblance? Hmmm I do. Oh except for the mind blowing aesthetics of the camo liner. Genius.<puking sound> Oh wait, what?</puking sound> Oh yeah, now I feel better.

Brad Douglas Customs: Motorcycle leather Nike Dunks

We showcased some of Brad’s custom shoe work earlier on: “Basketcase Dunk Mid“. Since then Brad has still been at “decon-recon” work on some customs and a new website. This round he used the same Dunk mid model but with some high quality motorcycle leather and snakeskin the second pair of lows has a really crisp metallic toe and lace panel that we love. Too bad Nike can not release good shoes like this instead of all the bright colored, pointless patterned crap they have been producing lately. Leave the crazy looking kicks to the customizers!

Interview with YoaKustoms Shoe Customizer Amanda Yoakum

For our most recent interview we are proud to spread word about YoaKustoms. A rather young customizer just coming up on 1 year in the hobby. In that one year she has learned a lot,  her designs have become more detailed, and she has received national exposure. So check it!

1. Please give your name, age, where you are from and or grew up?

My name is Amanda Yoakum.  I am 25 years old and from good old Basking Ridge, NJ.

2. What, if any, art based education have you had?

I’ve been doing art since I was a small child; I was born with it in my blood. I got my BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design in NYC.

3.When did you start and what got you into customizing?

YoaKustoms is just about to have its 1st birthday in April.  I got into customizing because my bf is a sneakerhead, so I customized a pair of kicks for his birthday, he put them up on the forums and they were a huge hit and now here I am. (This design below was that first pair!)
