Customizers have been ahead of Jordan Brand for a while when it comes to bringing their classic colorways known on a certain model to another. El Cappy created the Air Jordan IV Grape almost two years ago. Now he put the colorway that was first created on the AJ V to the next number with these Air Jordan VI Grapes.
Before the year is over there may not be a theme that the Nike Lebron X hasn’t been customized with. Known for his solid air brush work Kickasso Kustom Sneakers brings a Green Lantern theme to life for a very noticeable pair of custom sneakers. What started out as the already neck-breaking “Neon” Lebron X became slightly toned down taking advantage of the bright neon yellow upper.
The Brooklyn Nets are searching for local artists this Saturday March 16th for their first Sneaker Art Competition. With a guest appearance from Brooklyn native and hip hop artist Fabolous, the competition is open to all ages with child and adult categories. Prizes include Nets tickets, a Deron Williams autographed jersey and Nets Prize Pack. Taking place at the Paramount Gymnasium registration begins at noon.
Who would be surprised if the entire Heat team is decked out in a pair of Mache Customs soon? Well it might not happen in a game as supposedly Nike shot down Lebron wearing Mache’s Iron Man 3 custom shoes. But the marketers at Li Ning are obviously open to the idea as last night Dwayne Wade wore his Way of Wade titled “Gradient Peel” 1 of 1 design customized by Mache against the Atlanta Hawks.
Simplicity can give new life. Noldo Customs revived a worn pair of Air Jordan 11 Retros in the black and red playoff colorway. Or as they are nicknamed “breds” but the now blacked out breds received no more than a painting of their previously white midsoles.
Any chance to see and hear an artist with a portfolio of great artwork only makes the reason to follow their name more appealing. While on tour for the first time in the US last year, Australia’s Sekure D was snagged down by Albotas.com. All 9 minutes give great insight to Sekure D’s story of customizing sneakers, adding vinyl toys to his repertoire, his inspiration, creative process and what the future may hold for his brand.
Well their idea worked, this site is sharing a link to theirs. The staff at Complex put together yet another list, titling this one The 50 Worst Customs of All Time. Don’t read too much into this list as it only goes back to maybe 2009, at least one customizer’s work is mis-identified as another’s, and most of them are from 2012. All time? Umm okay. Definitely a few misses on the list but also quite a few that are only on there because they are a bit different than what’s accepted by the majority.

That he is Jay Z and the sneaker is the Air Jordan 1 Brooklyn Zoo by PMK Customs. Released last year in a very limited amount of 10 pairs for somewhere around $2500 each the full decon-recon customs feature the real skin and leather of 9 different animals.
