Spike Lee paid an amazing level of respect to Prince wearing this pair of custom Prince Air Jordan 1s as he celebrated the late artist’s life. At the 2nd annual Prince Born Day Purple People Party, Lee’s footwear game came correct once again. Spike Lee has been known to be a connoisseur of the custom sneaker scene repping pairs for his Spike Lee Joint films or beloved New York Knicks. Once again the filmmaker worked with artist Van Monroe and the result is maybe their best pair yet.
The Air Jordan 1 was chosen as the perfect silhouette to hold the vast amount of purple to be expected. Each shoe features a similar placement of the purple but each separately recalls a single Prince album. The left shoe features a recreation of the album artwork for Prince’s 9th studio album, Sign O The Times. The right showcases the ever classic Purple Rain with life like droplets of rain water, Prince playing guitar, white doves and a small hit of leopard print referencing the singer’s guitar strap. Lastly, each features the late singer’s former unpronounceable symbol stage name, otherwise known as the Love Symbol.
Enjoy these here as they are for certain a 1 of 1 design never to be recreated. But you can check more work from the custom sneaker artist Van Monroe on Instagram.com/VanMonroe and visit his website VanMonroe.com to inquire about your own custom sneaker commission.
