The process of this simple look achieved on these custom Rubber Dipped Vans is anything but that. These custom Vans are the handiwork of Ben Smith, who is known for his clean minimalistic sneaker customizations. Smith has been perfecting his take on the rubber dipped idea for over a year to prove their durability. As you can see in the last photos the rubber does wear down as any shoe’s sole would but it doesn’t completely crack and peel away with wear as the typical paints used for customization would. Two thumbs up for a customizer that actually shows the durability of his work.
Although this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this style of application used in custom sneakers Smith’s presentation is topping the past renditions. Spilled ketchup, cartoon jelly, and a melted Vespa? This is the creativity outside of the customs themselves we love to see. It will be interesting to follow the concepts Smith creates with these techniques.
Smith hasn’t released these for purchase to the public just yet but you can view more of his work and look out for details of when they are available at BenSmithStudios.com and on Instagram.com/bensmithstudios
