We’ve lost count on how many customs Van Monroe has made for famed director Spike Lee. Each a solid piece of work themed around one of Lee’s films. This latest reflects on the 25th anniversary of Lee’s Do The Right Thing. In the way a custom sneaker can, these go above and beyond the official AJ III colorway released that was inspired by the film in 2007.
Using the perfect base of the Laney Air Jordan V whose blue and yellow colorway act as perfect accents to the famed movie’s poster. The majority of the previously white upper from the toe to mid panels was painted a matching blue while the plastic eyestays received bit of red with coordinated laces. The back third is where they go above and beyond. The back drop is made up of colorful, bold detailed hand painted buildings from the streets of Lexington and Quincy of the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn where the film took place. In the foreground are the faces of the films main characters Mookie, his boss Sal, Buggin’ Out, and the LOVE & HATE four finger rings of Radio Raheem. A DTRT logo hang tag gives them the final touch for anyone unsure of the theme.
