One underrated factor of adidas revival is that of their repeated use in customizations. While the number of actual pairs customized equals small numbers amongst all adidas sold, their recent volume completely demolishes the days when all you came across were the occasional custom painted Superstar. One example is that of these Japanese inspired adidas NMD CS1.
Customizer Jon Ruiz translated the iconic Great Wave off Kanagawa imagery to that of the adidas City Sock 1s Prime Knit upper. Originally starting out white the upper was hand painted shades of blue and beige in one of the world’s most artistic images. Japanese characters on the midsole and Japan’s Rising Sun flag motif on the medial sides bring the theme full circle.
