4 years ago was the beginning of a pretty exciting run of publicity for Van Monroe’s custom sneaker work, remember his Obama Nike Air Force 1s? As Obama’s first term winds down Van Monroe is still going strong based on his recent customizations for Spike Lee and now Brandon Lafell, wide receiver of the Carolina Panthers.
The former LSU Tiger commissioned Van go to work on his own pair of Air Jordan VIIs using the color scheme of blue, black, gray, and silver to match his Carolina Panthers. With the theme “Dreams Come True” this custom starts off with the painting of the NFL logo in silver along with numbers 4, 23, and 10 which correspond to the date of April 23rd 2010 during which NFL Draft Round 3 took place as Lafell was picked by Carolina at the 78th pick. Van worked his painting skills by creating a detailed profile shot of Lafell on the left shoe that even shows his tattoos. Next each pair was also painted with the Panthers logo and four cat scratches along with the phrase “Dreams Come True”. To complete the package Monroe painted another look of Lafell running down the field with the ball in tow. These are the definition to the tee 1 of 1 custom kicks.
