Blunt Shank gives us a tongue in cheek take on any and all Bape collaboration sneakers, especially that of adidas. This reconstructed custom is one of the most “streetwear” custom sneakers that’s probably ever been made. A short peruse through a feed of custom sneakers would likely find numerous pairs painted with Bape camo. Often these are less than desirable attempts that of the popular streetwear brands print. Occasionally you’ll find an artist that actually took time to accurately make the print. These put the best seen to shame. As well this pair gives reason to thoughts on the current state of Bape and the scene of streetwear overall.
With a request to combine camo and skulls, Benji Blunt took a shot at the Bape hype and their slogan “Ape shall never kill ape” with a clearly direct “Ape Killed Ape” labeling and reworked Ape into a skull logo. He actually had a rendition of this Ape Killed Ape take on a painted customization years back. But with this attempt, a fully custom designed camo was printed on the canvas used to rebuild the majority of the upper. The level of details down to the printed details on the heels, tongue, and insoles put these at the top of the reconstructed sneaker attempts. Blunt put so much effort into these that he ended up making a 2nd pair, as in completing his first version he realized there was room to improve through a few adjustments. Hard to believe but it was true as a not often seen adidas half-shell toe design and expert level stitching look so on point.
