2010 has been the year of the full decon-recon custom Vans Sk8 Hi for Washington D.C. based shoe customizer theMenace. I have really lost count of the different colorways he has created using the Sk8 Hi this year. After already trying out a fresh selvage denim as his main material in a reconstruction back in June he went and sliced up a pair of rare vintage black acid washed LEVI’S 501s. Cutting up some vintage jeans may seem like a terrible idea to some but not when you are confident they’ll be transformed to a custom sneaker that when finished is nearly like a pair of stock, factory Vans. I have a feeling if these were an actual release the shoe Internetz would be going nutzo. Keeping them on a classic vibe theMenace choose a black liner, white stitching to match the midsoles, a bit of fraying on the edges, and the original tags of both the Vans and LEVI’S are used on the tongue and heels. The more I stare….the more I like, imagine them after 50 wearings. Ok..I’ll stop.
Because this acid wash denim is rather hard to find theMenace is re-making ONLY 1 PAIR. Buy them here before it is too late: theMenace’s Online Shop
