Jack The Ripper digs beyond the trend of exotic skins as his medium for reconstructed sneakers in this pair of satin Air Jordan I. The THREAD side of sneaker customization went into a boom around 2014 and 2015 as the hype of a pair of Jordans remade with python skin was at an all time high. Undoubtedly a cool look, the snakeskin trend was now not limited to a select few as more and more gave reconstruction customs a shot. With excess demand came excess supply and ultimately the wow factor wasn’t as high. In our personal opinion, the recon scene has barely scratched the surface of possibility when it comes to materials. That said, these custom Jordans by Jack the Ripper are a step in the right direction.
As 2016 saw a very limited release of the Air Jordan I in an all satin setup of the black/red Chicago color scheme and a glimpse at a black and royal blue version a few customizers probably had this idea. Using one of the more hyped up color schemes of the AJI, Jack The Ripper reconstructed these from leather to practically flawless construction in satin. The color scheme of black, white and royal is extra hyped up as it is from the Fragment design series by Nike’s Mark Parker, Tinker Hatfield, and Japanese designer Hiroshi Fujiwara. Taking that hyped but classicly great color blocking J.TheRipper added his own twist by throwing his name instead of Jordan’s to the embroidered Wings logos. Add in custom tongue tags and you have a custom many sneakerheads would be dying to own. Unfortunately, the lucky person to reach out to J.TheRipper first will likely keep these as a 1 of 1 project.
