In 2015 the WWE began honoring people outside their sports entertainment industry with the Warrior Award. It was created to recognize those that have “exhibited unwavering strength and perseverance, and who lives life with the courage and compassion that embodies the indomitable spirit of the Ultimate Warrior.” For 2017 the recipient was Eric LeGrand, who sustained a life-changing injury causing paralysis while playing college football at Rutgers in 2010. LeGrand was recognized for continued determination and work to bring awareness for many suffering from paralysis. LeGrand’s efforts are built through his cause Team LeGrand which helps the Christopher Reeve Foundation find a cure for paralysis.
Being on center stage for this WWE Hall of Fame ceremony LeGrand graced the podium with a pair of custom sneakers from none other than the man who has made customs for most of the WWE, Mache Customs. The theme was simple and executed to ultimate perfection on a pair of Air Jordan IIIs. The black leather upper was brought to life with details of the Ultimate Warrior’s iconic motif and colors of neon pink, orange and green on the toes and heels. Next, the UW’s mask and BELIEVE were painted in a more subtle gray. Last additions of tassels a la the Ultimate Warrior’s biceps back in the ring finish the customization.
This pair is likely going to stay a 1 of 1 for LeGrand but you can see more work and request your own custom from Mache at MacheCustoms.com and you can read more about Eric LeGrand’s charity at TeamLeGrand.com
