In their third game of the 2014-15 college basketball season the University of North Carolina Tarheels handed their in-state competition the Davidson Wildcats their first loss. UNC’s win was lead by 19 points from sophomore forward Kennedy Meeks, but it was junior forward JP Tokoto who has got everyone talking. First a late game alley-oop is worth watching below. Second there was apparently a bit of chatter according to @HeelIllustrated during pre-game about a pair of Air Jordan X’s Tokoto was wearing.
That chatter continued online as the Air Jordan X’s have been reported as an apparent PE, which stands for player exclusive. As they were an official design from the company made strictly for that player or a player on a specific team. But with a close look at the photo making the rounds from Heel Illustrated you notice the argyle painted over the stitching on the shoes side panels. Of course this is something we notice here at PaintOrThread because custom sneakers are our focus. It’s easily something most wouldn’t notice. So props are to be given to the customizer Deadstk86 for their attention to having a near factory finish that many have mistaken for a actual PE.
The base started as the retro Air Jordan X “Powder Blue” released in early 2014. The custom painted additions include blue to the back Jordan heel logo and from the lace panel to the ankle liner. Next the iconic UNC argyle was painted on the side panels along with an old school Air Jordan X PE looking 13 & JP near the ankles. Lastly the insoles each feature blown up takes on the school’s team logos.
In the right setting a custom sneaker can really make some news. More work from DeadStk can be seen on Instagram: @DeadStk86
