When Evan of Revive Customs is not painting, you can probably find him around Brooklyn, digging in crates to find the perfect vinyl for his collection. He loves music almost as much as he loves sneakers and a glimpse at his eclectic mix of records verifies that. Somewhere amongst Issac Hayes’ “Hot Buttered Soul,” The Chamber Brothers “New Generation,” and Quincy Jones’ “Walking In Space” lies the inspiration for this pair.
Tommy Boy Records is an independent record label founded in 1981 and responsible for albums like Coolio’s “Gangster’s Paradise” and De La Soul’s “3 Feet and Rising.” Instead of choosing a particular artist for inspiration, Revive Customs looked to the logos on promo sleeves from the label. In the wake of customizers facing legal action for “misuse” of copyrighted material in their art, Revive presents the first in a series he is calling “For Promotional Use Only.”
Starting with a pair of Nike Lebron X “Home” editions, Revive Customs simultaneously pays homage to the Tommy Boy label and the art of DJing.
