2010 may just be the year of the decon-recon custom shoe which is short for deconstruction reconstruction. Why? Guys that do decon-recons are stepping up their game big time, those that used to strictly paint are trying their hand at decon-recon, and there has been a few new customizers pop up that seem to have the decon-recon concept on lock.
The lastest has been MDVL out of Manila in the Philippines. Who is the first customizer I’ve heard of even being in the Philippines and of course he is pretty much the only person doing decon-recons there. One of his latest pieces a custom Nike Dunk titled “Scabs and Bruises” was created for one of the first online sneaker resellers based out of the Philippines by the name of Sole City. The shoes feature a slew of materials: raw black denim on the toes, a red denim on the panels, two types of reptile skin fabric on the Swoosh and back panels with hand painted MDVL X Sole City, and a costura seamless stitch around the toe box. Oh and if you haven’t been grossed out lately the red denim can been worn, scratched, or torn away to reveal a stripped red denim for which that is how it got its name. Huh, how’s that gross? “Scabs and Bruises” because it is like scratching of a scab which hasn’t fully healed yet revealing the flesh wound. THAT is the kind of creativity people will take notice of.
