Who would be surprised if the entire Heat team is decked out in a pair of Mache Customs soon? Well it might not happen in a game as supposedly Nike shot down Lebron wearing Mache’s Iron Man 3 custom shoes. But the marketers at Li Ning are obviously open to the idea as last night Dwayne Wade wore his Way of Wade titled “Gradient Peel” 1 of 1 design customized by Mache against the Atlanta Hawks. Not only did he wear them Wade led the Heat to their 19th win in a row with 23 points, 4 rebound, 6 assists and 5 steals. What started out as a white upper is now has toes, sides, and back heels airbrushed and hand painted multicolored & black gradient painted to look like the white leather is being peeled away. But According to Mache:
“I was aiming to make these reflect Dwyanes game, having the clean white upper represents his clean and refined surface layer. But peel back the that layer and underneath that lies this crazy gradient print is to represent the man once he’s on the court. It may not be for everybody but it’s definitely for Dwayne Wade.”
The NBA surely fined Wade since these are surely clashing against the Heats red/black/white jerseys looking like a mix between something in a dream and look reminiscent of Nike’s Air Tech Challenges. But that fine is surely worth the amount of attention for Li-Ning not to mention helping out a sneaker customizer. Nike where you at?
