In custom shoes 2011 is looking like the year of the “mirrored colorway”. A design concept that has been one of the driving forces in custom sneakers between painted or reconstructed work, the mirrored colorway is making a comeback. The process of mirroring is using a color combination made popular by an actual Nike or other brands release on a different shoe model. The mirrored colorway on this pair of custom painted Air Jordan IV is from the classic Nike Air Jordan V “grape”. Created by El Cappy Customs these previously all white Pure AJ IVs feature the signature shark tooth jags of the Air Jordan V that was originally inspired by a WWII fighter plane. The rest of the midsole is painted in the same fashion of the AJ V with purple, turquoise, and black. The upper was pretty much left white like the original except for the tongue is purple and turquoise as well a la the Grape V.
What are your thoughts on this type of custom? Creative thinking or cool but not the most creative? Or you are a OG “sneakerhead” that dislikes people altering Jordans, so these aren’t for you?
