Here at Paint Or Thread we revel in the obscure. Every once in a while some customizer puts out a custom with a theme that requires us to go do some actual research. In the latest from Dank & Co, two 1980s products become one. Using the well known Air Jordan IV as the base, an offshoot theme of Nintendo’s R.O.B. the Robot covers the upper. The Robot Operating Buddy was released during 1985 in both the US and Japan but didn’t last long with support for only two games. So aside from the original pieces, being featured as a special character in later games, R.O.B. is now lives on here on this pair of Air Jordans.
Created for the folks at the vintage video game store 1UpGames Covina, Jake Danklefs of Dank & Co. began with a pair of “military blue” Jordan IVs. The customization is made up of detailing inspired by the toy across the midsole, wings and the plastic netting. Graphics can be seen in the custom tongue tags, laser engraved and painted heel tabs, R.O.B., Nintendo, and 1UpGames’ Instagram handle. We’d bet this is the first pair of custom R.O.B. the Robot kicks.
